Ukraine's ECU state trader tests Romanian electricity import

November 28, 2022 - Interfax Russia & CIS Business and Financial Newswire

MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU) state power trader has effected the first test import of electricity from Romania, the Ukrainian media reported, citing the company's press service.

"On November 27, 2022, JSC Energy Company of Ukraine imported non-commercial amounts of electricity from Romania in test mode with 1 MW capacity over two hours," ECU said in a statement.

ECU acquired the right to import electricity at an auction organized by the national electricity transmission system operator, Ukrenergo, on November 24.

"The import of electricity could become an additional stabilization tool for Ukraine's power grid. Test shipments are necessary to test the technical capacity to import electricity from Europe in case of need," the statement said.

ECU first conducted test imports from Slovakia, on October 27 and November 19.

The company, which is fully owned by the state, is a multi-profile power supplier, which specializes in buying, selling, shipping, and market optimization of the use of energy resources for commercial clients.
