The Spanish company Acciona SA announced the construction of a mega wind farm in Australia, with an investment of 1.3 billion dollars.
With this, it will double its investment and generation capacity in the state of Queensland, the company informed in a press release.
The farm, called Herries Range, will have a capacity of 1,000 megawatts and will be built in the MacIntyre wind project area, where the Spanish renewable energy and infrastructure conglomerate has another 1,26 megawatt farm under construction, which it owns with the state-owned company CleanCo.
This project will come into operation in 2024 and is located in the same region as the Herries Range project.
Queensland is a state that has sought to attract investors for wind and solar farms, as it aims to reach 70 percent of energy supply from clean sources by 2032.
The new farm will provide enough clean energy to power the equivalent of 700,000 homes annually, Acciona said.
"With this project, we expect to dramatically accelerate the decarbonization of Queensland's electricity grid," Brett Wickham, Acciona's managing director in Australia, said in a statement.
Thus, with both parks in that area, there will be a capacity of 2,000 megawatts, which would supply 1.4 million homes.
