India seen to add 13.6 GW of solar, 2.6 GW of wind in 2022

    December 1, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

December 1 (Renewables Now) - India is expected to add 13.6 GW of solar and about 2.6 GW of wind power in 2022, JMK Research said this week as it released its third-quarter renewable energy report.

Of the projected solar installations this year, around 12 GW will be utility-scale solar and 1.6 GW rooftop solar.

According to JMK Research, in the first nine months of 2022, India deployed 9.3 GW of new utility-scale solar capacity, about 1.7 times higher than the year-ago period. It also installed 1,334 MW of rooftop solar and 604 MW of distributed/off-grid solar capacity.

Wind installations in the January-September period totalled 1.89 GW, a year-over-year increase of 46%.

In the third quarter, new installations exceeded the previous quarter, with utility-scale solar deployments at about 2.82 GW and wind at about 1.02 GW.

According to the report, India had about 118 GW of renewables capacity at the end of September, including about 60.8 GW of solar and 41.7 GW of wind. The firm said that around 45 GW of solar, wind and hybrid projects are currently in the pipeline and likely to be completed in the next four to five years.

JMK Research also said that 75 tenders representing 14.2 GW of renewable capacity were issued in the third quarter, a 25.7% rise from the previous quarter.
