The Ministry of Energy and Mines, in coordination with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), presented this Thursday, December 1, the design of the roadmap for the production and use of green hydrogen, with the objective of advancing in the strengthening of the energy transition in the country.
The initiative, which is being developed with the support of the IDB, seeks to promote a more sustainable and sustainable energy and production model , through an energy matrix based on renewable and non-polluting sources to combat climate change.
The goal is to turn green hydrogen into a competitive energy vector, comply with the commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to prevent global warming from reaching 2 degrees Celsius in the average temperature of the planet.

During the event held at the Central University of Ecuador (UCE), the Vice Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Enith Carrion, said that "Ecuador joins other countries in the region such as Chile, Uruguay, Costa Rica and Colombia, which are also embarking on a process of conversion to green hydrogen".
"This implementation is a fundamental opportunity to decarbonize sectors of the economy, such as industry and transport, in order to make them more sustainable and consequently reduce both the consumption of fossil fuels and emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) mainly," he added.
For her part, the head of IDB Operations in Ecuador, Adriana La Valley, stressed the importance of establishing a national strategy for the production and use of green hydrogen in Ecuador, in order to ensure a clean future without carbon emissions .
