Heineken Spain, in addition to ceding the land, will be in charge of purchasing the thermal energy produced over the next 15 years, from which time it will be able to acquire the facilities. The self-consumption solar thermal plant will be ready in June 2023. It will use curved mirrors to capture sunlight and concentrate it in tubes where water is heated to 200 degree, obtaining thermal energy that can be in the form of heat or steam
The project will produce 3,500 thermal megawatt hours per year, which will be used in the cooking and packaging processes of the different Heineken products. The facility will have a thermal storage system that allows a stable supply, at any time of the day or night, and regardless of weather conditions. The solar field will have an area of almost 6,000 square meters and will be designed for future extensions.
