December 6 (Renewables Now) - Apex Clean Energy will supply clean electricity to US electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian Automotive Inc (NASDAQ:RIVN) under a 50-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) tied to the 300-MW Goose Creek Wind project in Illinois.
The US renewables developer announced on Monday this agreement is Rivian’s first large-scale renewable energy procurement.
In addition to this PPA, the EV maker has other renewable sourcing deals in place as well as on-site renewable generation, which will allow the firm to cover up to 75% of the consumption at its plant in Normal, Illinois.
At present, Apex is working on securing local permits and approvals for Goose Creek construction and as a PPA stipulation. The renewable energy developer estimates the wind asset will commence power operations in 2024.
Last month, the company announced Danish manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) will supply and commission 50 units of the EnVentus platform V162-6.2 MW machines to Goose Greek.
