The licensee of the Almaraz nuclear power plant (Cáceres) notified the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN), following the established procedure, of the automatic shutdown of the unit II reactor due to the actuation of the turbine protections. The event had no impact on the workers, the public or the environment. The direct cause of the event was the entry of humidity in the connection box of the safety valve of the oil tank of one of the auxiliary transformers, due to the rains of the last few days. The humidity caused a short circuit which activated the relay associated with the opening of the safety valve which, in turn, triggered the turbine protection relay and the corresponding plant shutdown.the owner proceeded to repair the sealing of the junction box insulation joint and checked the boxes of the other transformers. Once the work was completed, the licensee initiated the start-up of the unit. The CSN, as established in its procedures, informed through its web page of the receipt of notification of this event. With the information available up to this moment, it is classified as level 0 (out of scale) on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES).
