January 17 (Renewables Now) - The joint venture (JV) developing the 525-MW Lupiae Maris floating offshore wind project in Italy has submitted its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) application to the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and to the Ministry of Culture, according to an announcement on Monday.
The JV, created to develop the project in September 2022, is between European renewables platform Galileo Green Energy GmbH and Italy’s Hope Group.
The EIA application is a key milestone towards securing planning permission, the developers said. It follows more than two years of environmental studies and project development.
The project proposes the installation of 35 floating wind turbines off the coasts of Brindisi and Lecce in the southern Adriatic Sea. It is being described as one of the most mature offshore wind projects in Italy and one of the first to file EIA application.
The developers will start a campaign in the spring for precise wind resource assessment.
