BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 18. Kyrgyzstan has significantly increased electricity imports from Turkmenistan in 11 months of 2022, Trend reports with reference to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan.
According to statistics, Kyrgyzstan imported electricity from Turkmenistan for $59 million from January through November 2022, which is 8.2 times more than in the same period of 2021.
During the reporting period, the volume of Turkmenistan's electricity exports to Kyrgyzstan amounted to almost 2.1 billion kWh. In addition, Kyrgyzstan imported 590.1 million kWh of electricity worth $13.9 million from Kazakhstan.
Overall, the volume of Kyrgyzstan's electricity imports amounted to 2.7 million kWh worth $72.9 million in the 11 months of 2022.
Turkmenistan became Kyrgyzstan's primary electricity provider in 2022. During the last year, a deal was concluded on the supply of 2 billion kWh of electricity from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan for 2023.
