Afghanistan extends electricity supply contract with Turkmenistan

    January 24, 2023 - Afghanistan Times

      AT News

Kabul: Power Company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) and Turkmenenergo have signed an additional agreement to extend contracts for electricity supplies from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan for 2023, the Afghan company reported.

The document was signed in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat by DABS CEO Mula Muhammad Hanif Hamza and the head of Turkmenenergo, the company said.

The details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a resolution concerning electricity exports at the end of December. It allows electricity exports from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, and proposes the formation of amounts and prices for deliveries. Turkmenistan has been supplying electricity to northern parts of Afghanistan at discounted prices for several years.

Meanwhile the Uzbekistan Ministry of Energy announced that the export of electricity to Afghanistan is to resume from Wednesday.

According to this announcement electricity supply to Afghanistan had been stopped since due to the drop in air temperature and the problem in supplying fuel to power plants.

Last week Taliban acting Foreign Minister asked Uzbekistan to export electricity to Afghanistan according to the agreement.
