IAEA mission analyzes the situation around the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant

    January 24, 2023 - CE Noticias Financieras

      MADRID, 24 (EUROPA PRESS)

The country's nuclear authorities have indicated in a statement that the mission has started its work in the area shortly after the IAEA sent other working groups to southern Ukraine.

After raising the IAEA flag in the area, the experts held several meetings with representatives of the local government and the head of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission, Oleg Korikov, and the general director of the plant, Andrei Koziura, among others.

During the meeting, the parties affirmed that the aim of the mission is to maintain the safety of the plant and its facilities despite the war. The Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denis Shmigal, stressed that the presence of the IAEA in Ukraine "will prevent a nuclear accident in the country's power plants".

At the Zaporiyia plant, which is located in territory under Russian control, the organization's specialists have been working permanently since September 2022.
