Air Liquide Argentina, a company that supplies industrial, medical and specialty gases, announced the signing of a 7-year contract for the supply of renewable energy with PCR, from its wind farm located in the south of the province of Buenos Aires.
The agreement will allow Air Liquide to supply almost 8 MW of renewable energy starting in the second half of 2023, which will enable it to supply its production plants with renewable energy.
By operating its production plants with a higher proportion of renewable energy, the company will avoid the emission of 133,000 tons of CO2 during the term of the agreement, accelerating its commitment to lead the energy transition, especially through the decarbonization of its own assets.
Facundo Aranguren, CEO of Air Liquide Argentina, said that the company "is committed to decarbonizing its own assets and enabling the development of renewable energy capacity globally through its long-term commitments."
The Mercado a Término de Energía Eléctrica de Fuentes Renovables or Mater, as it is known by its acronym, is the market where renewable energy is bought and sold between private parties.
This scheme allows the system's large consumers to comply with the requirements of Law 27.191, which demands that by 2025 20% of the electric energy they consume comes from renewable sources.
The purpose of the legislation is to regulate an Electric Energy purchase mechanism that allows its acquisition by free agreement between the parties for Large Users of the Wholesale Electricity Market (MEM) with power demands equal to or greater than 300 kw.
