    February 1, 2023 - Contify Energy News

Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has launched the authorisation procedure for plans to rationalise the high-voltage electricity grid in the west Brianza area. The restructuring work will enable an increase in efficiency of the electricity transmission service in the area. Plans for the new infrastructure will enable removal of 18 supports and will free up approximately 30 hectares of land.

      Original Press Release:

Jan. 31 -- TERNA S.p.A. issued the following news release:

      - Creation of 13 km of new underground cable and 2 substations, and demolition of 7.3 km of overhead power lines; the Ministry of the Environment has launched the authorisation procedure for restructuring and upgrading of high-voltage infrastructure for five municipalities in Lombardy; the works will enable an increase in efficiency of the regional transmission service

The Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has launched the authorisation procedure for plans to rationalise the high-voltage electricity grid in the west Brianza area. Terna’s overall investment for this project totals around € 100 million.

The restructuring work, which will involve the municipalities of Seveso, Barlassina, Cesano Maderno, Cogliate and Ceriano Laghetto in the province of Monza-Brianza (Lombardy), will enable an increase in efficiency of the electricity transmission service in the area and, with improved meshing of the local grid, will guarantee greater continuity and security of operations.

The company led by Stefano Donnarumma will create approximately 13 km of new power lines in underground cable, enabling the demolition of 7.3 km of overhead power lines located predominantly in densely populated areas in the municipalities of Seveso and Cesano Maderno. Plans for the new infrastructure will enable removal of 18 supports and will free up approximately 30 hectares of land. In addition, Terna will create two new substations in the municipalities of Barlassina and Cesano Maderno: these systems will be integrated into the landscape, protecting the local area, adopting environmental mitigation measures including planting.

For identification of the routes for the new connections and location of the substations, Terna established a highly successful sharing and participatory planning process which, through dialogue with all parties involved, enabled definition of a project widely shared with local communities.
