CIP joins NorSea-Parkwind offshore wind consortium in Norway

    February 2, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

February 2 (Renewables Now) - Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) will become part of the partnership between Belgium-based Parkwind NV and Norway’s NorSea Group that was created to develop floating offshore wind projects in Norway and bid in local tenders.

The companies will combine their experience in the development, financing and construction of renewable energy projects, CIP said on Wednesday. The trio will bet on their strong local presence and the know-how from similar projects in Northern Europe.

CIP’s participation is seen to further strengthen the consortium that was established in the summer of last year. At the time, Parkwind and NorSea formed a new company to bid in a forthcoming license round for the Utsira Nord and Sorlige Nordsjo II areas in the North Sea.

The first tender in 2023 will be for the 1.5-GW Utsira Nord. The specific area, spanning 1,010 sq km (390 sq miles) is suitable for both demo and larger projects, while the 2,591-sq-km Sorlige Nordsjo II can accommodate bottom-fixed wind parks and possibly floating solutions.

On a separate note, CIP said it has agreed with Norwegian pension company KLP to become its strategic co-investor. The arrangement aligns with KLP’s goal to invest at least NOK 6 billion (USD 607.3m/EUR 550.9m) in green projects annually.

      (NOK 1.0 = USD 0.101/EUR 0.092)
