HyCC picks Kraftanlagen, Nel for 40-MW Dutch green hydrogen project

    February 6, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

February 6 (Renewables Now) - HyCC BV on Monday named the engineering contractor and technology supplier for a 40-MW green hydrogen project called H2eron it develops in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, for the purpose of supporting the production of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

Kraftanlagen Energies & Services has been contracted to handle the basic design and engineering (FEED) of the plant, HyCC said in a statement. At the same time, Norway’s Nel ASA (OSE:NEL) has received a EUR-12-million (USD 12.9m) order to supply alkaline electrolyser equipment with a combined capacity of 40 MW. It said separately that electrode production should begin in the final quarter of 2025.

The hydrogen produced by the facility in Delfzijl will be used by SkyNRG to make SAF from industrial byproducts and residue streams, such as used cooking oil.

HyCC, which is a joint venture between European electrochemical company Nobian and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, already has the necessary environmental permit for the project and is currently working towards taking the final investment decision (FID) next year. First hydrogen is expected to be produced in 2026.
