Norway: Committee proposes measures to reduce electricity prices

    February 7, 2023 - M-Brain Nordic News

The Energy Committee of the Norwegian Social Democrats (Ap) has proposed several measures to reduce electricity prices in Norway. The Committee's main point is that a reduction or abolition of VAT on electricity may bring down the prices. Moreover, there is a need to strengthen the current electricity support scheme, the Committee states, asking for a review of the existing electricity support schemes. It is against new electricity cables to foreign countries in short and medium-long term, and asks for a revision of the plan for new cables to Denmark once the existing cables have to be replaced. The Committee is also in favour of investigating measures aimed at limiting the negative impact of price contagion from Europe as a result of power exchange.
