Wyomissing, PA, April 9, 2018 – UECU, a not-for-profit financial cooperative, primarily serving the utility and energy industries, recently announced its service-focused scholarship contest for students pursuing post-secondary education. The Credit Union was built upon the People Helping People philosophy and has been empowering credit union members to reach their financial goals for over 80 years. To support students in furthering their educational goals, UECU awards an annual scholarship and provides members with low-cost private student loan options.
For the 2018 Scholarship Contest, UECU will grant a $2,000 scholarship to a student member who has made a positive impact in their community. To be considered for the contest, applicants must be a member of the Credit Union or join UECU before the May 7th contest deadline. Those eligible for membership include family members of workers in the energy and utility industries, students pursuing employment in energy-related fields, and individuals living, working, worshiping, or attending school in the Greater Reading, Pennsylvania area. Applicants can apply for credit union membership and download the scholarship submission requirements online at uecu.org/scholarship.
Students also have access to the Credit Union’s My First UECU program, which provides first-time borrowers with credit options for personal loans, auto loans, and credit cards without the requirement of a co-signer. This is especially helpful for individuals who are working towards establishing their credit. UECU President and CEO, Bret Krevolin explained, “We offer programs such as these because we are committed to helping students and young adults pursue their career goals and build a financially-sound future. UECU’s low-cost loans, mobile banking services, free checking accounts, and automated savings options provide the financial benefits members need as they transition from the classroom to the workforce.”
