Steve Wright Discusses 'Reinvigorating Hydropower' with the Energy Central Power Perspectives Podcast

The latest episode of the Energy Central Power Perspectives Podcast welcomes the General Manager of Chelan PUD, Steve Wright. In this role, Steve played a key role in developing the Reinvigorating Hydropower report alongside the National Hydropower Association, and he joins the podcast to discuss why this workhorse of the utility industry has been overlooked and underappreciated for so long, and what the use of digital tools will be able to do to modernize and optimize the hydropower sector like never before.

Steve chats with host Jason Price of West Monroe and producer Matt Chester to sing the praises of hydropower, update the Energy Central community about developments in the world of hydropower that may be going unnoticed, and argue for the position that hydropower currently and will in the future continue to play in the critical clean energy transition.

Despite the long history of reliable clean energy generation from the hydropower sector, Steve shares in this episode how he thinks the technology can be pushed to be even better:

I do believe there are opportunities for a technology revolution in the hydropower industry as well. Now I will admit that the ability to translate the BTUs of falling water into kilowatt-hours is the highest of any type of generating resource in the hydropower industry, but there still are opportunities to do better.

From a technology to a policy to a market perspective, Steve makes a compelling case for expanded use of hydropower technologies and presents some great inside knowledge on those topics.

This entry into the podcast, like all of the series episodes, can be found on all major podcast outlets, including iTunes and Spotify, or it can be listened to directly on the Energy Central platform. Give it a listen and share your reaction in the comments.
