SeeNews Renewables

January 19 (Renewables Now) - Fepam, the environmental protection agency in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, has issued the preliminary licence (LP) for a 435-MW wind project, it said on Tuesday.

The Pinheiro Machado Wind Complex will consist of 174 wind turbines with an individual capacity of 2.5 MW. They will form three wind parks -- the 145-MW Asperezas, 132.5-MW Curral de Pedras and 157.5-MW Torrinhas -- on the border between the municipalities of Piratini and Pinheiro Machado.

Local energy firm Rio Energy Desenvolvimento de Renovaveis SA is named as the party in charge of the project. The next environmental document the company needs to receive is the installation licence (LI), which allows for the start of the works on the site.
