Swiss BKW gets approval for wind project in Bern

May 9 (Renewables Now) - Swiss energy company BKW AG (SWX:BKW) has received approval from the authorities in the canton of Bern to install three wind turbines in the Bernese Jura near an existing wind park.

The approval was granted by the cantonal authority responsible for spatial planning (OACOT) which rejected all objections, BKW said last week.

Preparations for the start of construction work on the Jeanbrenin project are expected to begin in autumn 2022 at the earliest.

The three wind turbines will be set up on the Montagne du Droit ridge near the Juvent wind park which produced 85 million kWh of electricity in 2020, enough to supply about 85,000 people. Once operational, the new machines are expected to generate some 15 million kWh which would cover the consumption of around 15,000 people.

In addition to developing wind projects, BKW agreed in March to buy six wind parks with an installed capacity of 105.7 MW in northern France, boosting its portfolio of green power plants to more than 800 MW. The Bern-based energy group seeks to raise its renewable generation capacity to over 1 GW by 2026 with a focus on wind and solar plants in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway and Sweden.
