Ukraine : German Galushchenko and Kristina Kvien discussed ways to restore nuclear security in Ukraine and the world

    Aworking meeting between the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and the Charg d'Affaires of the United States of Ukraine a.i. Kristina Kvien took place today. The meeting was also attended by the head of SE NNEGC "Energoatom" Petro Kotin.

    The parties discussed the state of Ukraine's energy sector, natural gas supplies, fuel supply needs, and the electricity market issues. One of the topics of the meeting was the ways to restore the nuclear security of Ukraine and the world in the context of the seizure of Ukrainian nuclear energy facilities by russian troops.

    Thus, German Galushchenko and Kristina Kvien discussed the consequences of the occupation of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, as well as the seizure andn holding of the Zaporizhia NPP by russian troops. The parties agreed on the need to strengthen the IAEA's involvement in the deoccupation of ZNPP, countering russia's nuclear terrorism and, accordingly, strengthening Ukraine's and the world's nuclear security.

    Kristina Kvien noted that the barbaric treatment of nuclear facilities by the russian military shows that their assessment of reality remained at the level of 1941.

    The U.S. official Kristina Kvien praised the sustainable and reliable operation of the power system and in isolation regime as well, especially in the context of russia's military invasion and targeted attacks on energy infrastructure.

    The American side assured of political support for the commercial export of Ukrainian electricity to Europe and readiness to facilitate this process.

    German Galushchenko, in turn, thanked for the unprecedented unwavering support from the United States, which helps to resist russia's military aggression against Ukraine.
