10 major wind projects in development in 2022.

Renewable Energy News (CBNB Abstracts)

According to the US Energy Information Administration, more than 17 GW of wind power capacity went online in 2021, resulting in a 30% growth in US wind energy production to 135.1 GW. In 2022, 7.6 GW of capacity was anticipated to be added. Wind energy accounts for almost 8.5% of domestic power generation. Oklahoma, Iowa, and Texas are the states with the highest wind power generation. In 2022, 5 of the 10 major wind projects being developed are situated in these three states. The 10 major wind power projects are currently in regulatory permitting phases and have a combined generation capacity of almost 6.6 GW. The projects are MidAmerican Energy Company's 2042 MW Wind Prime project in Iowa; Equinor Wind US LLC's 1260 MW Empire Wind 2 and 1230 MW Beacon Wind in New York; Rocky Mountain Power's 320 MW Boswell Springs Wind in Wyoming; Seven Cowboy Wind Project LLC's 297.275 MW Seven Cowboy Wind Project in Oklahoma; BMP Wind LLC's 340 MW Baird North Wind Facility in Texas; Badger Wind LLC's 251.6 MW Badger Wind Project in North Dakota; 25 Mile Creek Windfarm LLC's 250 MW 25 Mile Creek Windfarm in Oklahoma; AEP Texas Inc's 223.8 MW Monte Alto I Wind and 236.9 MW Monte Alto II Wind in Texas; 233 Randolph 74 Solar I LLC's 148.02 MW Ranchland Wind Project II in Texas. MidAmerican Energy, a Berkshire Hathaway Energy subsidiary, expects to put the Wind Prime project in service by 1 Jan 2026. The total investment for the project was $3.9 bn. For the Empire Wind 2 and Beacon Wind 1 projects, Equinor and BP finalized the purchase and sale agreements (PSAs) in Jan 2022 with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYERSDA). The projects are scheduled to begin commercial operations during 2027 and 2028, respectively. For the onshore Boswell Springs Project, launch is expected in Dec 2024. In Jun 2022, Innergex Renewable Energy Inc (IRE) announced the 331.8 MW project in Albany County, WY. The company will sell the output to Rocky Mountain Power via a 20-year power purchase agreement, with about 320 MW of offtake capacity. For Seven Cowboy Wind, construction works began on 30 Mar 2022 and operations are anticipated by end-2022. The wind farm is located in Washita and Kiowa Counties, and features 107 turbines that produce around 1.3 terawatt-hours/y (TWh/y) of energy. Meanwhile, construction of the Baird North Wind project was completed on 31 Jan 2022. Investment for the project reached more than $427 M. For the Badger Wind Project, construction is scheduled to be completed on 31 Dec 2023. For the 25 Mile Creek Windfarm, operation is anticipated by end-2022. Project cost is estimated to be $340 M.
