Trillion Energy makes gas discovery offshore Turkey

    March 16, 2023 - MarketLine

Trillion Energy International has made a gas discovery at the South Akcakoca Sub-Basin (SASB) gas field in the Black Sea offshore Turkey, following the drilling of the West Akcakoca 1 well.

The well represents the fourth well in the firm's multi-well programme at the SASB gas field.

During the drilling work, the well encountered an abundance of gas pay. The well has been drilled to a total measured depth (TMD) of 3,839m.

As per the analysis of logging while drilling (LWD) data, the firm estimates 55m of potential natural gas pay within six sands in the Akcakoca member (SASB production zone).

The firm now plans to move the rig to drill the Guluc-2 well, which is planned to be commissioned by the end of March 2023.

Trillion CEO Arthur Halleran said: "That is four for four success at SASB, as Trillion successfully executes its gas development program at SASB.

"We eagerly await the gas flow rates and plan to put the wells into production [at the] end of this month. As South Akcakoca 2, Guluc 2, and West Akcakoca 1 wells targeted resource prospects, not reserves, Trillion has significantly increased the proved reserves through the drilling program to date. We expect to release our updated reserve report by the end of the month."

Located in the Southwestern Black Sea, the SASB conventional gas field comprises several conventional natural gas pools in shallow water.

The fields have so far produced more than 42 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas.

In 2022, Trillion commenced the 21+/- well programme to redevelop the SASB field.

The development programme will initially cover seven production wells that are planned to start production during a time of acute natural gas shortages in Europe and Turkey.

An additional 100 wells will be drilled at a later stage.
