MONTVILLE, NJ – Drivers in Montville will face headaches starting March 23 as a natural gas pipeline will be under construction in town.
As part of its obligation under federal law to maintain the safety and reliability of its facilities, Enbridge is required by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration regulations to routinely monitor its pipelines for segments which require attention and address them in a timely fashion to protect the public and to ensure Algonquin's compliance with federal pipeline safety regulations.
Enbridge has identified three areas of natural gas pipeline in Montville Township that require attention. The project will require extensive construction work on Route 202 near the railroad bridge near Changebridge and Changebridge Road from Macculoch to #19. Work is expected to occur at night between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Route 202 with no anticipated lane or road closures and around-the-clock six days a week on Changebridge Road where the southbound lane will be closed from Mucculoch Drive to Ashland Drive. The northbound lane of Changebridge Road is expected to remain open.
Enbridge anticipates beginning on March 23 and continuing through April 28. There will be road closures and detours through construction zones during this time but at least one lane of travel is expected to be open through the construction zones. Temporary construction signage will be posted in advance of the start date and traffic safety officers will be in place as necessary.
While this will certainly have an impact on traffic in the community, the work is absolutely necessary, and working around the clock will allow the project to be completed in a more timely fashion. The township is in close communication with Enbridge, Morris County and the contractor to help make this project go as smoothly as possible while keeping the public informed with any information or changes that are necessary during the construction process. Road closures and detours are frustrating but if possible, seek alternate routes when available and allow for extra travel time.
Enbridge is providing a 24-hour phone number for any questions or concerns during construction: 1 (888) 217-9110.**BULLSEYE
