Repsol to offer up to 20 cents discount to its electricity and gas customers

    March 21, 2023 - CE Noticias Financieras

Repsol is preparing to give a blow on the table in the energy sector that could unleash a new commercial war not only in the oil sector but also in the electricity and gas sectors.

The company will launch on April 1st an ambitious commercial campaign "Energías conectadas" which will replace the current 10 cents discount on the price of fuels with a program with which it intends to build loyalty and expand its multi-energy customer base, that is, which also includes electricity, gas or butane.

According to sources consulted by elEconomista.es, the company will offer its customers a loyalty system that will be incremental depending on the number of contracts they have with the oil company. In this way, Repsol will link these fuel discounts to the multi-energy offer it proposes to its customers by offering exclusive advantages for being a Waylet user and a customer of one of the electricity, gas, solar solutions and electric mobility businesses.

      Six million customers

The oil company has already reached 6 million users of its Waylet payment platform, which will be the system on which all this new loyalty architecture will be based, with which customers will be able to obtain up to 20 cents off depending on the products they have contracted with the company.

Repsol's goal is to reach 8 million Waylet users and reduce the number of applications currently in use to facilitate interaction with the customer and improve the user experience.

The company headed by Josu Jon Imaz will offer to redeem the money accumulated in the Waylet wallet with any of the company's products, as well as in associated establishments such as El Corte Inglés. In other words, the money accumulates when paying through Waylet and is used for the product the customer wants.

      First to offer discounts

Repsol was the first operator to voluntarily establish, on March 16, 2022, discounts -both for individuals and hauliers- in addition to other discounts it had been offering its customers for years, and which were also added to the state bonus launched on April 1, 2022 by the Government. Since that date, Repsol's customers have benefited from savings of close to 500 million euros, entirely assumed by the company, which has thus seen its commercial margins reduced.

Waylet makes it possible to pay at any of Repsol's more than 3,300 service stations and provides functions such as refueling without going to the cash register, managing electric vehicle recharging, paying quickly and securely from a contactless cell phone, and paying for regulated parking in more than 22 locations. In addition, more than 4,400 businesses have already signed up to pay with Waylet, including El Corte Inglés, Burger King, Popeyes, Paradores, First Stop, La Casa de las Carcasas, Federópticos and Petuluku.

The application also offers the possibility of buying gift cards with 12% discounts at Ikea, Decathlon or Amazon.es.
