US oil giant ExxonMobil remains committed to investing in the liquified natural gas fields in the Rovuma Basin, offshore Cabo Delgado Province in northern Mozambique, state news agency AIM reported on 23 September.
ExxonMobil's management made the commitment at a meeting in Washington with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, the source said.
On his return to Maputo on 23 September, Nyusi told journalists he had briefed the ExxonMobil executives on the security situation in Cabo Delgado.
"They evaluated our successes with a great deal of satisfaction," Nyusi said, adding that the company would decide when to resume operations.
"Their only problem is when they can resume, so we have been working with them to accelerate this process," Nyusi said.
In April, ExxonMobil's general director, Arne Gibbs, said the company needed assurances of long-term stability in Cabo Delgado before restarting production at its gas project.
