Norway: Municipalities open to nuclear power

    March 13, 2023 - M-Brain Nordic News

The mayor of Norwegian municipalities Aure and Vennesla have declared that they are open to nuclear power plants. Mayor of Aure Hanne Berit Brekken points out that the public opposition to wind farms, and the need for electricity to transports and new industries, have put the municipality in a huge dilemma. The municipality wants new industries, such as onshore fish farming, to become more eco-friendly, as well as Equinor's existing methanol factory at Tjeldbergodden. It is collaborating with nuclear power company Norsk Kjernekraft in a project to prepare for nuclear power. Vennesla is also facing resistance against wind farms. However, both the Government and the Parliament's Energy Commission believe that nuclear power is currently out of the question in Norway.
