March 14 (Renewables Now) - General Electric (NYSE:GE) is working on the next version of its Haliade-X offshore wind turbine, which will be a 17 MW-18 MW variant, according to Scott Strazik, chief executive of GE Vernova, which groups GE's energy businesses.
The market response to the next product is positive and orders could start in 2024, Strazik said during the industrial conglomerate’s investor conference last week in Cincinnati, Ohio.
“Now we are getting a very positive reception from the market with our 17 to 18 megawatt Haliade-X variant off of what we're shipping this year. We're working that very hard, but we're being thoughtful about it,” he said.
“And I think over the course of this year, there's a high likelihood we'll get tech selects for that next product and economics that we believe can be very profitable, but they won't convert to orders for a period of time. That may be -- more likely '24, some of it into '25,” the executive added, according to a transcript from the event.
The Haliade-X turbine is currently offered with a capacity of 12 MW, 13 MW and 14 MW.
In December 2022, GE Renewable Energy said that the Haliade-X turbine received a full type certificate for operations up to 14.7 MW from DNV GL.
