March 15 (Renewables Now) - Greek renewable power producer Terna Energy (ATH:TENERGY) has secured regulatory approval to install a 53.7-MWh battery energy storage system at the site of a 22.1-MW solar park in the Thessaly region.
The permit, which comes as an amendment to the company’s existing power producer certificate for the site, was awarded by domestic energy regulator RAE on Tuesday. The license will be valid for 25 years, expiring on January 21, 2047.
Terna’s project is located in the Volou and Riga Feraiou municipalities of Magnesia regional unit. The company received a permit to build a photovoltaic (PV) park at the site in August 2022. Specific details about the construction schedule were not available.
In January, Terna obtained permission to build a 79.8-MW wind farm with 19 turbine generators on Greece’s Evia island, local media reported. The project comes to support the company’s goal of having 3,300 MW of renewable energy assets in 2025.
According to its latest financial report, Terna had 895,3 MW of renewable power plants in operation and 1,234 MW of wind, solar, hydro and energy storage projects under construction at the end of September 2022.
