RWE, a Germany-based power production firm, has chosen Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy to deliver recyclable blades for the 1.4 GW Sofia offshore wind farm positioned off the northeast coast of England, UK. Under the terms of the deal, Siemens Gamesa will provide 132 recyclable blades to be installed on 44 of the offshore wind farm's 100 SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines. Positioned 195 km off the UK's northeastern coast on Dogger Bank in the North Sea, the facility will include turbines with 108 m long turbine blades and a 222 m rotor diameter. Both firms have decided to produce half of the blades for the plant at Siemens Gamesa's Hull factory in the UK. The offshore deployment of the Sofia offshore wind farm would begin this 2023 and the project is likely to be finalized in 2026. Original Source: NS Energy, http://www.nsenergybusiness.com.
