Spanish multinational electric utility Iberdrola has awarded a wind contract to Haizea Wind Group- a manufacturer of large metal structures for wind turbines. As per the pact, the manufacturer will supply 50 monopiles for Iberdrola's 1400 MW East Anglia Three offshore wind farm located in UK.

UK is currently the global leader when it comes to offshore wind installations.

The deal, valued at over 200m, looks into supply of materials, engineering of the manufacturing process and manufacturing of monopiles.

Haizea will manufacture monopiles at its site in Haizea Bilbao, Port of Biscay. The agreement is said to contribute to the expansion of the facility. The said expansion will see an investment of over Euro 150m and will take the site from 48,800 square metres to more than 200,000 square metres. This will also necessitate a new storage area for the monopiles. This will lead to increasing the number of ships by twofold.

The contract will also pave the way for 350 direct jobs.

At present, Haizea Group has facilities in Spain, Argentina and France.

Iberdrola recently revealed that it has entered into an alliance with Norway's sovereign wealth fund, to invest in 1,265 MW of new renewables capacity in Spain. According to the terms of the agreement, the valuation of 100% of the assets in the portfolio amounts to approximately EUR 1.2 billion. A few weeks ago, the Spanish firm also bagged its first floating solar project based in France.
