Just three months ago, Galicia took another step forward in the energy transition and the process for the decarbonization of its economy with the help of Reganosa, Repsol and Naturgy. The three companies confirmed an alliance to promote a green hydrogen production hub with the construction of an electrolysis plant powered by completely renewable energy on the site of the former Meirama thermal power plant, now in the process of being dismantled. The project will require an investment of 46.4 million euros and will generate 400 jobs in the first phase, which is expected to be operational in 2025. To promote this project, declared a priority for the Xunta, the Ministry for Ecological Transition yesterday confirmed its inclusion in the provisional aid resolution with funding of 15 million.
With the new industrial projects in the Meirama area, according to the Institute for the Just Transition, an agency of the department headed by Teresa Ribera, more industrial employment will be generated than the one lost due to the closure of the thermal power plant. The Government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, highlighted yesterday that "a great opportunity is opening up for Galicia".
