Apex lands 50-MW PPA with Cargill for Illinois wind farm

    March 16, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

March 16 (Renewables Now) - US renewables developer Apex Clean Energy has added food producer Cargill to the list of power off-takers from its 300-MW Goose Creek Wind project in the state of Illinois.

Apex said on Thursday it had signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply to Cargill electricity from a 50-MW portion of Goose Creek Wind. The wind farm will be located in Piatt County close to Cargill’s manufacturing centre and an innovation lab.

The agreement will contribute to Cargill’s efforts to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 10% by 2025, while Apex gains another corporate off-taker for the Goose Creek Wind project. Cargill joins US electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian Automotive Inc (NASDAQ:RIVN), which also booked 50 MW from the wind farm, and another unnamed corporate entity, Apex added.

Goose Creek Wind is expected to start commercial operations in 2024.
