March 17 (Renewables Now) - Entergy Louisiana LLC, a unit of US utility Entergy Corp (NYSE:ETR), has asked regulators to allow it to add 3 GW of solar to its generation resources in what is the largest renewable power expansion request in the state’s history.
The company said on Thursday it filed the request with the Louisiana Public Service Commission on March 13. Combined with the almost 225 MW of solar resources that the utility requested recently, this means 3,225 MW of solar are in line for potential construction, development and addition to the grid through agreements with Entergy Louisiana, it added.
At the moment, Entergy Louisiana has only about 280 MW of renewable resources. Including nuclear generation, the share of carbon-free resources in its portfolio is almost 25%.
The planned new solar capacity in Louisiana is in line with Entergy Corp’s objective to have 15 GW to 17 GW of renewable resources by the end of 2031.
