Uzbekistan discloses energy generated by SPPs in Navoi and Samarkand regions

    March 17, 2023 - Trend News Agency

Solar power plants in Uzbekistan's Navoi and Samarkand regions generated 55.8 kWh of electricity from January through February 2023, Trend reports via Uzbekistan's Energy Ministry.

According to the ministry, during the reporting period, the plants prevented emissions of 22,000 tons of harmful gases into the atmosphere and provided for saving of 15 million cubic meters of natural gas.

The ministry notes that the volume of electricity generated by solar power plants covers the two-month consumption of over 140,000 households.

The Uzbek government pays special attention to boosting renewables deployment countrywide. In this regard, Uzbekistan attracts funds from international organizations and cooperates with major energy suppliers to develop the country's energy sector.

Recently, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Foreign Trade and Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power signed an agreement on the implementation of projects in the field of renewable energy.

According to the newly signed document, ACWA Power will finance the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of 1,000 MW in the Samarkand region, 400 MW in the Tashkent region, as well as the installation of an autonomous battery for storing electricity with a capacity of 1,200 MW.
