March 21 (Renewables Now) - French-Belgian consortium Thistle Wind Partners (TWP) has come up with names for its two ScotWind projects, a fixed-bottom and a floating wind scheme of 1 GW each.
TWP, a partnership between DEME Concessions, French renewable power producer Qair and Belgian renewable energy company Aspiravi, on Monday said the projects will be called Bowdun and Ayre, respectively. They have been named after well-known coastal headlands.
The Bowdun offshore wind farm, in the E3 leasing zone, is located off the coast of Stonehaven, 44 km (27 miles) from the landmark of Bowdun Head. The Ayre offshore wind farm, in the NE2 leasing zone, is located 33 km from the East Mainland of Orkney.
Both will consist of between 50 and 60 jacket-foundation turbines of 18 MW-25 MW. Construction is expected to start in 2029 and the wind parks to be completed in 2033.
Surveying work has commenced with bird and mammal surveys and will continue over the next two years.
