March 22 (Renewables Now) - Corio Generation, Vargronn and A Energi on Thursday unveiled Brigg Vind as the brand for their offshore wind partnership in Norway.
The news comes as the Nordic country is expected to open its first offshore wind auctions later this month.
The Brigg Vind team will initially target up to 1,500 MW of bottom-fixed capacity that is planned to be awarded in the first phase of the Sorlige Nordsjo II area in the southern North Sea. The Norwegian government aims to allocate acreage for 30 GW of offshore wind by 2040. The Brigg Vind partners say that 50 GW of offshore wind in Norway by 2050 is a realistic target.
Corio is a portfolio company of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG). Vargronn is a Norway-based offshore wind company, a joint venture between Eni’s Plenitude and Norwegian energy investor HitecVision. A Energi, previously Agder Energi, is a Norwegian utility company.
The team explained their new brand honours Norway’s maritime tradition, with Brigg meaning a sailing vessel with two square-rigged masts and vind -- wind.
