EC clears Taiwanese wind business acquisition by Macquarie, wpd

    March 23, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

March 23 (Renewables Now) - German renewables developer wpd AG and Australia’s Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX:MQG) have received the European Commission’s nod to take joint control over a number of Taiwanese onshore wind assets.

The planned deal was approved by the Commission on Tuesday, which reviewed the proposal under the simplified merger review procedure. Its decision states that the transaction would not raise any competition concerns as the target companies are not operating within the European Economic Area.

wpd and Macquarie are seeking to acquire Luwei Wind Power Co Ltd and its fully-owned unit Chiwei Wind Power Co Ltd, along with Chungwei Wind Power Co Ltd, Tongwei Wind Power Co Ltd, Chinfeng Wind Power Co Ltd, and Anwei Wind Power Co Ltd. All of them operate onshore wind farms in Taiwan and are engaged in the provision of electricity.

The buyers approached the EC to review the acquisition plan in February.
