RAIPUR, March 23 -- Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his predecessor Raman Singh had a showdown on Wednesday in the Chhattisgarh Assembly over coal transportation rates given by a state-owned power company at Gare Pelma coal block in Raigarh district.
During Question Hour, Raman Singh alleged that more than double the fare was given to Raigarh Coal Transportation to ferry coal, leading to loss to the state exchequer.
Singh alleged a multi-crore scam and said a loss of Rs 210 per tonne was suffered by the government due to this.
Replying, Baghel said coal transportation rates differ from mine to mine and the system adapted by the present government was the same as that of its predecessor.
If the BJP government in 2017 had okayed that the SECL-approved rates had to be implemented. then it would have been by his government. "The rules today followed are the same as enforced by the erstwhile BJP government."
The Chief Minister denied the demand of BJP members for a House Committee probe into the matter.
Dissatisfied, BJP members staged a walk out. Published by HT Digital Content Services with permission from Pioneer. For any query with respect to this article or any other content requirement, please contact Editor at contentservices@htlive.com
