West Penn Power completes upgrade of Westmoreland County high-voltage transmission line

    March 23, 2023 - Resource News International

      International Resource News - 23 March 2023

West Penn Power, a subsidiary of United States-based electric utility company FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE), has announced that it has completed the upgrade of a high-voltage transmission line in Westmoreland County.

This move is intended to help in stringing new, larger wires that can manage additional demand if other lines in the area are out of service.

The 138-kilovolt transmission line operates around eight miles northeast across Rostraver Township and South Huntingdon Township. The company has also deployed various new transmission structures along the route and made associated upgrades at the Yukon Substation, which is fed by the line. The project is worth USD13.7m. It is intended to reduce the risk of overloads on the line that are likely to impact the electric grid's reliability.
