    PLN opens collaboration for development of nine geothermal work areas

      27 Mar 2023 (Antara News Agency) For the first phase of the procurement, we open cooperation for the development of WKP in Tulehu, Songa Wayaua, Atadei, and Tangkuban Perahu Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-run electricity company PT PLN (Persero) opens collaboration in the development of nine geothermal work areas (WKPs), with a total capacity estimated to reach 260 megawatts (MW).PLN's President DirectorDarmawan Prasodjothrough a statement on Monday noted that this is a form of full support to the government in expediting energy transition to reach the net zero emission target in 2060. The nine locations that PLN will develop immediately comprise Tulehu in Central Maluku, Atadei in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Songa Wayaua in South Halmahera, Tangkuban Perahu in West Java. Moreover, Ungaran in Central Java, Kepahiang in Bengkulu, Oka Ile Ange in NTT, Mount Sirung in NTT and Lake Ranau in South Sumatra and West Lampung are the other areas where PLN will also conduct development. "For the first phase of the procurement, we open cooperation for the development of WKP in Tulehu, Songa Wayaua, Atadei, and Tangkuban Perahu," Prasodjo remarked. s the holder of geothermal license in Indonesia, PLN had received a mandate from the law to develop the geothermal potential to as much extent as possible. PLN has also prepared the geology, geochemistry, and geophysics (3G) study detail for WKP development. "PLN is committed to supporting the energy transition program through geothermal development. To expedite our geothermal potential, PLN also continues to establish broader cooperation," he noted. Collaboration becomes an important key in developing the geothermal potential spread across various regions. This involves feasibility study, geothermal facility construction, and energy conversion from geothermal source. "Through this type of cooperation, we will receive collaboration between experts, knowledge sharing, and the opportunity to improve the green energy portfolio together," Prasodjo stated. To this end, he urged all interested parties, including local firms, foreign companies, and domestic as well as international investors to become PLN's strategic partners in the development of WKPs in Indonesia. "In here, we will collectively not only develop a mutually beneficial business but also produce eco-friendly energy," he noted.
