Engie starts commercial operation at 434-MW wind complex in Brazil

    March 28, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

March 28 (Renewables Now) - Energy company Engie Brasil Energia SA (BMVF:EGIE3) announced on Friday that the first 6.2 MW of its 434-MW Santo Agostinho wind farm complex in Rio Grande do Norte state reached commercial operation.

Power sector regulator Aneel approved last week the start of operations of the first wind turbine of the project.

When completed, Santo Agostinho will consist of 14 wind farms with a total of 70 turbines to be installed in the municipalities of Lajes and Pedro Avelino.

The project represents an investment of around BRL 2.3 billion (USD 439.62m/EUR 408.07m). Full commercial operation is scheduled to begin before the year is over.

In addition to Santo Agostinho, the company is developing the 846-MW Serra do Assurua project in Gentio do Ouro, Bahia state. Overall, Engie Brasil currently has over 1.2 GW of installed wind capacity in the country.
