March 29 (Renewables Now) - NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, part of Indian state-run power producer NTPC Ltd (BOM:532555), has secured a deal to supply a huge green ammonia complex in Andhra Pradesh with renewable power from 1.3 GW of capacity.
A term sheet for the deliveries was signed with Greenko ZeroC Pvt Ltd, a unit of Greenko Group, NTPC said in a bourse filing on Tuesday. According to the electricity generation company, the contract is among the largest deals for round-the-clock renewable power globally for an industrial client.
The contracted power volumes will be used at Greenko’s proposed green ammonia production facility in Kakinada that is planned to export its output to the European market. Last month, German energy company Uniper SE unveiled plans to enter into exclusive talks with Greenko for the offtake of 250,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually from the complex.
In the first phase of the project, ammonia will be produced at an electrolysis plant powered by 2.5 GW of round-the-clock renewable power generation. Eventually, the ammonia facility should reach one million tonnes of annual production capacity by 2027.
NTPC Renewable Energy is a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Ltd, which is NTPC’s renewable energy arm.
