May 18 (Renewables Now) - Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Tuesday approved the country’s Power Development Plan 8 (PDP8) for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, which includes a target of 6,000 MW of offshore wind by 2030.
The long-delayed plan envisages USD 134.7 billion (EUR 124.4bn) of investment in the development of power sources and grid infrastructure this decade.
Onshore wind is expected to reach 21,880 MW by 2030, representing 14.5% of the power mix, while solar will account for 12,836 MW, or 8.5%.
The plan seeks to ensure energy security in view of a projected GDP growth of an average 7% a year between 2021 and 2030. Under it, the country’s power generation resources are set to leap to around 150 GW by 2030.
