May 18 (Renewables Now) - The northern Brazilian state of Bahia ended the first quarter of 2023 as the largest wind power producer in the country, accounting for 34.2% of total generation, according to data from Brazil's Power Trading Chamber (CCEE).
At present, Bahia has 272 wind parks in operation and 7.42 GW of installed capacity, which represents a total investment of more than BRL 34 billion (USD 6.8bn/EUR 6.3bn) and around 74,000 jobs created.
The local government expects that 65 new wind farms will be put into operation by 2027 and 182 other projects will follow up by 2029. This massive portfolio will add 10.26 GW of installed capacity and attract some BRL 60 billion in investments.
In regards to solar generation, Bahia has 47 operational plants, 25 projects under construction and 347 more waiting to break ground.
