Navantia has started the search for a new factory. The public naval company has communicated that it is already analyzing "possible strategic locations" in view of the growth forecast for the offshore wind energy sector. These facilities would be complementary to its current manufacturing and assembly centers in Fene (A Coruña) and Puerto Real (Cádiz).
Sources of the public company consulted by Europa Press have detailed that the forecast of"exponential growth of offshore wind power in Europe in general and in Spain, and the needs derived from the increase in the size of the components of the future wind farms", motivate the company to study new locations for the final assembly of components.
In this way, the company, which belongs to the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI), has wanted to respond to some statements which came from the political sphere and which considered as a certainty the transfer of the state-owned company to the outer port of A Coruña, specifically to Punta Langosteira.
Sources consulted have assured that "once they fit in the company's business plans, and if the definitive concessions are obtained", these "would be operated on a case by case basis by Navantia, and its current partners and collaborators in this business, contributing to increase the national capacity for the manufacture of components for offshore wind farms".
