    Nigeria commissions 40-MW hydropower plant

    May 22, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

May 22 (Renewables Now) - Nigeria last week formally commissioned a 40-MW hydroelectric power station in the northeastern state of Gombe, the office of the country's president announced in a statement.

The Dadinkowa HPP is located at the Kashimbila Multipurpose Dam site. The power station includes two 20-MW turbine generators, Nigeria’s water resources minister said at the inauguration ceremony, as quoted by local media.

In addition to the hydro plant, the Phase 1 project includes a 132-kV switchyard and a transmission line, as well as work on certain substations.

The project’s execution demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to the "Electricity Vision 30:30:30" target, which calls for establishing 30 GW of renewable power capacity by 2030 so that the share of renewables in the energy mix reaches 30%, President Muhammadu Buhari stated.
