In Sweden, the approvals in the administrative board of Halland for the development of offshore wind farms Kattegatt Syd and Galene by companies OX2 and Vattenfall off the coast of Halland have been appealed in the land and environment court in Vänersborg. The appeals have been filed by environmental organisation Birdlife, organisation Föreningen Svenskt Landskapsskydd and Onsala Space Observatory at Chalmers University of Technology among others. The two developers have also appealed the decisions, as they are not content with the terms. The court will now have to decide if the projects will damage so called Natura2000 environments. There is also an option for the government to grant exemption to the projects, if it is found that no other location is possible, and if the general importance of the projects are deemed to be sufficient.
