Which one is it? Know the Cali neighborhood that will be without power on May 23rd

A neighborhood in the city will not have power service this Tuesday, May 23 due to maintenance work on the wiring, as reported by Empresas Municipales de Cali (Emcali).

This is due to the installation of ecological cable. It is worth remembering that the installation of this ecological cable is being carried out in various sectors of the city and its main function is to improve the provision of service, allowing less power outages to be generated in the sectors where they are being located, thanks to the fact that they protect more efficiently and that these elements do not have much contact with tree branches or external elements that may affect the provision of service.

According to Emcali, the installation of this ecological cable has allowed to reduce energy suspension times by 33%. So far, more than 660 linear kilometers of this element have been installed.

Specifically, the sector is 10th Street between Carreras 32 and 39, in the Departamental neighborhood.

According to Emcali, the service will be suspended from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the aforementioned sectors. The reason for these cuts, according to the utility company, is the installation of a new ecological cable.

"According to the Energy Regulation Commission, Creg, in charge of rating network operators in the indicators Average Duration of Interruptions, Saidi, and average number of times that an interruption is presented, Saifi, EMCALI, maintains an average interruption in the provision of energy service of six (6) hours per year, compared to the 2019 measurement, which was nine (9) hours. Suspensions caused especially by tree branches that impact the distribution system lines", stated the entity.

In addition, the Municipal Companies of Cali reported that about $ 60,000 million have been invested in the installation of the ecological cable and that they are currently carrying out work in the southern area of the city, mainly.

Replacement of sewerage networks

The Empresas Municipales de Cali, Emcali, stated that they will make an important investment to replace water and sewage networks in some areas of the city.

The announcement was made at the beginning of May 2023, when the manager of Aqueduct and Sewerage of Emcali, Humberto Serna, met with the inhabitants of the neighborhoods of Comuna 16 to explain the scope of these works.

According to the entity, the first territory that would be benefited is the República de Israel neighborhood, in the sector comprising Carrera 43 between 43rd and 48th streets.

"The contracts are in legalization of policies. They start next week with an execution time of 10 months. This work is part of Emcali's investment plan in basic sanitation and network replacement," reported Emcali.

Likewise, the utility company indicated that about $2151 million will be invested for these works and that "once Emcali finishes the networks, the Secretariat of Infrastructure will do the paving. These works improve the quality of service provision and improve the neighborhoods' environments".

However, although there are some sectors in the city that have been intervened for water and sewage repairs and have been delivered satisfactorily, there are others that have been more than two months with streets completely uncovered by these repairs.

An example of this is the current state of Carrera 37a with Roosevelt Avenue, which according to inhabitants of the sector is in charge of Emcali and, in spite of several complaints to fix the road, it has not been repaired for a long time.
