Uzbekistan's government agencies reach 50% of renewables capacity installed

    May 24, 2023 - Trend News Agency

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 24. To date, solar panels with a total capacity of 107 MW have been installed at social institutions and government agencies of Uzbekistan, Trend reports.

Large state-owned companies of Uzbekistan are implementing these measures at an accelerated pace. However, progress in social institutions has been slow, the officials reported to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the meeting.

As such, university buildings of the country have installed 36 percent of the scheduled number of panels, schools have installed 33 percent, and medical institutions have installed 28 percent. The overall figure has reached nearly 50 percent. However, in the city of Tashkent, the implementation of renewable energy sources stands at 26 percent of the planned target.

By the presidential decree dated February 16, 2023, a program to accelerate the implementation of renewable energy sources has been adopted. The program includes the installation of solar panels with a capacity of 220 MW in social and government institutions this year.

This year, it is planned to commission solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 2,000 MW. Additionally, during the recent state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the People's Republic of China, agreements were reached for the construction of 11 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 4.8 GW worth $4.4 billion.
